National Geographic Field Guide to the Birds of North America, 7th Edition Pdf

ISBN: 1426218354
Title: National Geographic Field Guide to the Birds of North America, 7th Edition Pdf
Author: Jon L. Dunn
Published Date: 2017

“The new edition is comprehensive and authoritative, written clearly enough for a beginning birder to understand and yet highly detailed enough for those who are more experienced. Dunn’s expertise in bird taxonomy and Alderfer’s artistic skills are a boon to this latest update of the venerable Nat Geo, a most worthwhile addition to any birder’s library.” ABA blog  National Geographic Field Guide to the Birds of North America, 7th Edition rated number one on American Birding Association podcast, by book reviewer Donna Schulman."After testing nine bird guides by taking them out in the field, comparing their contents and usability, and interviewing experts about their pros and cons, we choose the National Geographic Field Guide to the Birds of North America as the best field guide for most people. Equal parts detailed and accessible, it will appeal to experts and novices alike...beautifully illustrated and impressively thorough, yet still compact enough for you to hold it comfortably in your hands or tuck it into a bag. Its comprehensiveness—including more than 1,000 species of birds—will appeal to more hardcore birders. But its special features, such as thumb tabs and a fold-out visual index, make it accessible for beginners, too." —Wirecutter “What’s not to love about a fully updated, thicker Nat Geo guide?” –BirdWatching "Bins, camera, Nat Geo—the three essential elements for a mega-rarity twitch. No other field guide to North American birds does rarities so comprehensively and so well...The publication of National Geographic Field Guide to the Birds of North America, 7th Edition is one of the top bird book events of 2017." —10,000birds.com“This latest edition of an eminent classic is so good that soon enough it won’t be read at all: it will be quoted, referred to, even recited by birders, young and old, who have committed its wisdom to heart and put its information to use every day in the field.” –Birdaz.com“If you want to become a better birder, get this guide and use it often. The text is thorough and accurate, the plates are a gratifying combination of painterly and precise, and the layout is a tour de force.”  —Ted Floyd, editor of Birding magazine   “National Geographic has packed so much—new species, new art, revised maps, subspecies details, updated taxonomy and the latest ID tips—into this newest edition of their classic field guide that I suspect it may simply explode.”  —Scott Weidensaul, author of Living on the Wind“This book really has it all. It's thorough and concise. The book feels high-quality, and is beautifully illustrated and enormously informative. This one is a must-have for all birders, whether amateur or experienced!” –Cerebral Girl in a Redneck World  "This was book is incredibly well done. The images are clear and easy to identify, and they are well organized, making finding the right bird quick and easy. Below the images, there are text tips, these are especially helpful if you can’t quite identify off the picture. I was happy to see the pictures showing the birds in flight, which is how I see them most of the time." –BookExpression   “It is a very fine book and the most recent edition has some great improvements. It’s an excellent field guide to have in your collection. –Birdchick   “This volume is a really great reference to have on hand—both for any nature studies and just for watching outside of your windows.” –Just a Secular Homeschooler   “This @natgeoguide is so comprehensive and easy to use! The drawings are clear and detailed, making it easy to actually determine what bird you’re looking at. The birds are also categorized by type (sparrow, hawk, gull, etc) making it quick to navigate. I plan to be that nerd 🤓 carrying around a bird book on our next adventure. No shame here.” –Instagram: @wellreadmama   “I’ve found the National Geographic Field Guide to the Birds increasingly impressive with each successive edition into which it has been published…Thus, for those seeking the present pinnacle of field guides for their North American (north of Mexico, at least) birding activities, a guide rich in ornithological details that will withstand regular field use, the new seventh edition of the North American Field Guide to the Birds of North America is quite likely the book to be sought.” –The Well-read Naturalist   “…a beautifully crafted tome filled with tons of information that will delight bird watchers everywhere.” –A Dream Within a Dream"Updated, upgraded, and indispensible. The illustrations are better than in any other field guide; the fully revised text is detailed, accurate, and well organized; and the maps are unmatched. This is the guide for birders and field ornithologiests." —Dr. J. V. Remsen, Jr., Museum of Natural Sciences, Louisiana State University  "A stellar update of this standard-setting field guide. The new edition offers innovative features for all skill and interest levels, from those seeking a basic ID to those who want their field guide to deliver the goods on behavior, taxonomy, and distribution."  —Dr. Terry Chesser, Chair, AOS Committee on Classification and Nomenclature (North and Middle America) "New birds, new knowledge and new art work just made the most essential guide for North American birders even more essential....You only need to buy one field guide for North America, and the National Geographic is it." —Neil Hayward, author of Lost Among the Birds "[This edition] continues to improve on the already outstanding previous editions.  The addition of many new illustrations as well as updated text and range maps make this book the standard for North American field guides." —Mark W. Lockwood, author of The TOS Handbook of Texas Birds JON L. DUNN is a leading expert on the identification and distribution of North American birds. He is a consultant for Birding magazine, and former chair of the American Birding Association's Checklist Committee. JONATHAN ALDERFER is chief consultant for National Geographic's Birding Program and a widely published author and field guide illustrator. One of the nation's foremost birding artists, he is well known for his authority on North American birds and his expertise as a field birdwatcher.

This fully revised edition of the best-selling North American bird field guide is the most up-to-date guide on the market. Perfect for beginning to advanced birders, it is the only book organized to match the latest American Ornithological Society taxonomy.

With more than 2.75 million copies in print, this perennial bestseller is the most frequently updated of all North American bird field guides. Filled with hand-painted illustrations from top nature artists (including the ever-popular hummingbird), this latest edition is poised to become an instant must-have for every serious birder in the United States and Canada. The 7th edition includes 37 new species for a total of 1,023 species; 16 new pages allow for 250 fresh illustrations; 80 new maps; and 350 map revisions. With taxonomy revised to reflect the radical new American Ornithological Society taxonomy established in 2016, the addition of standardized banding codes, and text completely vetted by birding experts, this new edition will top of the list of birding field guides for years to come.

I carry a guide to help others in the field enjoy their new found lifer The seventh ed. will go next to six other heavily notated editions as each edition improves upon the last, and changes to the nomenclaturecontinue. Six months may pass before I scan every page. After fifty five plus years of birding I tend not to use a field guide but carry an old schoolpocket note book and take Grinnell style notes. I carry a guide to help others in the field enjoy their new found lifer. The seventh edition is well worth having. These seldom disappoint. I don't take field guides into the field ... Another outstanding NG product. I have bought eveyr edition since they started coming out years ago...These seldom disappoint. I don't take field guides into the field anymore so like to have the latest edition on the reference shelf and the preceding edition in the truck for the folks I bird with.but this is the best ever. Besides being the most complete I have had several birding field guides before, but this is the best ever. Besides being the most complete, it includes most of the recent exotic species established in the states, and even includes an appendix of species found here only one or two times, but which could occur again. The color plates are the best I have ever seen. Perhaps some time in the future, it could include the birds of the USA islands like Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands.

Title: Cracking the Coding Interview Pdf 189 Programming Questions and Solutions
Author: Gayle Laakmann McDowell
Published Date: 2015
Page: 708

Gayle Laakmann McDowell is the founder and CEO of CareerCup and the author of Cracking the PM Interview and Cracking the Tech Career. Her background is in software development. She has worked as a software engineer at Google, Microsoft, and Apple. At Google, she interviewed hundreds of software engineers and evaluated thousands of hiring packets on the hiring committee. She holds a B.S.E. and M.S.E. in computer science from the University of Pennsylvania and an MBA from the Wharton School. She now consults with tech companies to improve their hiring process and with startups to prepare them for acquisition interviews.

I am not a recruiter. I am a software engineer. And as such, I know what it's like to be asked to whip up brilliant algorithms on the spot and then write flawless code on a whiteboard. I've been through this as a candidate and as an interviewer.

Cracking the Coding Interview, 6th Edition is here to help you through this process, teaching you what you need to know and enabling you to perform at your very best. I've coached and interviewed hundreds of software engineers. The result is this book.

Learn how to uncover the hints and hidden details in a question, discover how to break down a problem into manageable chunks, develop techniques to unstick yourself when stuck, learn (or re-learn) core computer science concepts, and practice on 189 interview questions and solutions.

These interview questions are real; they are not pulled out of computer science textbooks. They reflect what's truly being asked at the top companies, so that you can be as prepared as possible. WHAT'S INSIDE?
  • 189 programming interview questions, ranging from the basics to the trickiest algorithm problems.
  • A walk-through of how to derive each solution, so that you can learn how to get there yourself.
  • Hints on how to solve each of the 189 questions, just like what you would get in a real interview.
  • Five proven strategies to tackle algorithm questions, so that you can solve questions you haven't seen.
  • Extensive coverage of essential topics, such as big O time, data structures, and core algorithms.
  • A behind the scenes look at how top companies like Google and Facebook hire developers.
  • Techniques to prepare for and ace the soft side of the interview: behavioral questions.
  • For interviewers and companies: details on what makes a good interview question and hiring process.

Perpetuates the insanity of programmer interviews. Resist if you can. As programming interview prep books go, this one is currently the most popular of the bunch. It's OK, in that you'll find material to practice for the whiteboard interviews that are prevalent at big tech companies. But let's be honest: this whole ecosystem is toxic. Here's a lady who worked for a few years at Google (that's right -- she worked for a *few* years, and only interned at those other big names she mentioned), and has parlayed that rather limited work experience into an entire lifestyle business, where she coaches programmers on how to pass interviews. That should tell you something important: the interview-prep industry has completely decoupled itself from the actual job of programming!I've been writing software for a long time, and I'm competent at my job. I've worked at some well-known companies, and I've interviewed a LOT of people. But I'm here to tell you that even I can't pass one of these interviews without studying. That's a bad thing. If the goal of an interview is to identify competent programmers, we've gone far, far off the rails with these kinds of interviews. But of course, that isn't (entirely) the author's fault. She's just a cog in the machine, and profits by perpetuating it. Because the presence of books like these create a vicious cycle: prep book gets written; interviewees study/memorize answers; interviewers make questions "harder" to compensate; new book gets written! It never ends. The grinder continues to turn, and whereas ten years ago you could get a good job with some string or linked-list manipulation questions, now you've got people who consider whiteboard coding of topcoder elite questions to be the baseline measurement of programmer competency. That's nuts. You'll even run into lazy interviewers who take questions directly from this book, which is the ultimate in stupidity: if "good" candidates have prepared from the book, and you ask questions directly from the book, what are you really accomplishing, other than a test of memorization skills? And yet, this is distressingly common. I've seen it myself. I've had recruiters from major tech companies send me pages from this book so that I can "prepare" for their interviews. What now? This kind of crap only stops if the more senior amongst us simply *refuse* to do it anymore. New grads have no leverage, so it's up to the rest of us to stand up and demand change. If you work at a company, please, INSIST that your interview process avoid questions from this book. If you interview programmers, please, stick to questions that demonstrate actual day-to-day work competency. And yes, if you're interviewing and you have the leverage, stand up to companies that try to abuse you with this kind of demeaning nonsense. If we are to be professionals, we have to demand the career respect afforded to professionals. That includes not being treated like children when we are interviewed.Anyone confused about what language this boom I’m sure this is a good book. However, you would think a book on software would have what language it is focused on readily available. It does not. I had to do research to figure it out... after purchasing it. Very annoying. For your info, its in java. If you’re not a java developer it’s useless til you decide you want to learn java. And by that time you’re probably working and don’t need an interview prep book. PUT THE LANGUAGE ON THE FRONT PAGEProfits & perpetuates weaselly & hubric hiring practices of some "companies" of industry. This book summarizes in concrete form how the "white tower" side of these companies use these kinds of subjective and unrealistic "entrance exams" to exclude perfectly capable people from their exclusive "club".They refuse to standardize on a fair, independent, and common testing system as any other education, or professional industry, already do.You can bet that any of their engineers that got in years ago would not readily still pass these tests, as it doesn't represent any normal, day-to-day activity that wouldn't take more time and research to solve. You could have 25 years of a successful career at another company with many delivered, production products under your belt, and then find you are nothing more than an idiot not worth hiring after these timed tests.

Dark Psychology 101

Dark Psychology 101: Learn the Secrets of Covert Emotional Manipulation, Dark Persuasion, Undetected Mind Control, Mind Games, Deception, Hypnotism, Brainwashing and Other Tricks of the Trade Audible – Unabridged ridged
Author: Michael Pace ID: B014I5PC78

Dark psychology is one of the most powerful forces at work in the world today. It is used by the most powerful influencers the world has ever known. Those who are unaware of it risk having it used against them. Don’t run that risk! In his book entitled Dark Psychology 101, author Michael Pace offers a cutting-edge distillation of some of the most powerful principles in the world of dark psychology. Each chapter explains an aspect of dark psychology in a way which is understandable for a layman with no specialist scientific knowledge. Ideas are illustrated with examples to make the task of understanding dark psychology easier. In addition, the book contains case studies and useful profiles on the types of people who make use of this “black magic” in their everyday lives. You will be also shown how you can apply the principles of dark psychology if you choose to. Please be warned, this book is not for the faint of heart or the weak of mind. Once you have lifted the curtain on the world of dark psychology, there is no going back. You will have an understanding of human nature that few have ever obtained. With great power comes great responsibility.
Done.

This is one of those books that proved enlightening in ways I didn’t expect. We’ve all heard of subliminal advertising and the conspiracy theorists love to tell stories of government attempts at mind control and most likely the majority of us have scoffed at the idea. But the truth is we’ve probably all been subjected to dark psychology at the hands of someone much closer to home over our lifetimes. Whether it’s a manipulative partner you can’t seem to walk away from or that one co-worker who seems to dangle the entire office on her own personal puppet strings, the ability of some people to understand the way you think and behave and know exactly how to push your buttons to best benefit themselves is more common than we realize. Of course that’s the whole point, to manipulate and control those around them without anyone even realizing what’s going on.

This book sheds some serious light on dark psychology, both in how it works and how to make it work, and how to realize it’s being used on you. There were several points in here where this lightbulb went on about a certain someone I once knew or know today, and it was like wow, suddenly I get it. I used to think I was not the sort of person who could be easily manipulated or controlled. Sadly I’m now aware of how easy it is to do just that by understanding my personality and using it against me. After reading this I also recognized some of the tricks people have used on me in the past.

This goes beyond simple interpersonal manipulation though. The section on psychological secrets of con artists and the chapter on so-called heavenly psychopaths was fascinating.

Captain Marvel Vol. 3

Captain Marvel Vol. 3: Alis Volat Propriis Paperback – September 1, 2015
Author: Kelly Sue Deconnick ID: 0785198415

Series: Captain MarvelPaperback: 96 pagesPublisher: Marvel (September 1, 2015)Language: EnglishISBN-10: 0785198415ISBN-13: 978-0785198413 Product Dimensions: 6.6 x 0.2 x 10.2 inches Shipping Weight: 6.4 ounces (View shipping rates and policies) Best Sellers Rank: #83,080 in Books (See Top 100 in Books) #307 in Books > Comics & Graphic Novels > Publishers > Marvel #777 in Books > Comics & Graphic Novels > Graphic Novels > Superheroes #7833 in Books > Teens

This volume is a continuation of Deconnick’s run on Captain Marvel. If you have enjoyed her work on the series so far, you’ll enjoy this volume as well; for me, it ranks as slightly better than Vol. 2, but not quite as good as Vol. 1. If you haven’t read Vol. 1 or 2 yet, Vol. 3 is NOT a good starting place, and I recommend you purchase the other two first.

The issues included are #12-15. #12-13 wrap up the storyline from the previous volume in a satisfying way, although I would have liked to see Rocket return, if only briefly. Issue #14 is a part of a larger ‘Black Vortex’ event and although it *can* stand on its own somewhat, is more confusing than it ought to be and really should just be included in a TPB for that event, rather than included here. Issue #15 sees Carol Danvers return from deep space to Earth in a rather emotional spiritual end to Deconnick’s multi-year run on Captain Marvel (although Deconnick also wrote the’ Captain Marvel & The Carol Corps’ Secret Wars tie-in, it seems this is the true end to her time with the character).

As always, Deconnick’s writing is witty and enjoyable. The art, especially the colours, complement the feel of the book – bright, exciting and fun. Although neither Deconnick nor Lopez are groundbreaking, Captain Marvel remains one of the most fun books around.

Does not measure up to the previous two books in the series (which are both awesome). The first few issues collected here tie up some plot threads from earlier, but in a story that’s fairly silly, and which stretches the fantastical sci-fi elements past the breaking point. The next issue ties into a totally unrelated storyline (running through a different series?); it’s jarring, and not particularly great.

Even David Lopez’s excellent artwork is marred by the addition of a "Color Artist," whose dark tones don’t seem appropriate to Lopez’s style.

Loved the stories. Kelly Sue did an awesome job, and ended with a memorable "farewell", even if it was a bit sad- it had a good ending. Art was on point.
